Upcycling Wool and Fleece to Feed Hungry People

Pantry Partners of Dane County has supported food pantries in the Madison, Wisconsin, area since 2009.

Mittens and dryer balls are available for a cash or credit card donation. 100% of proceeds go directly to three food pantries: The River Food Pantry, St. Vincent de Paul, and WayForward Resources.

Mittens are available at all locations Nov. 1 - Jan. 1, while supplies last. Klein's Floral and Greenhouses carries dryer balls, in addition to mittens.

How Pantry Partners of Dane County turns wool sweaters into mittens

Step 1

Wool sweaters are donated by Madison-area thrift stores and Pantry Partners' supporters.

Step 2

Sweaters are washed, dried, and prepared for cutting.

Step 3

Volunteers cut mitten pieces from the upcycled wool.

Step 4

Mitten pieces are sewn together by local volunteers.

Step 5

Each pair is lined with cozy fleece.

Step 6

Women's mittens are embellished with buttons, which are also donated.
